Decorative Flake, Quartz, and Broadcast Systems Toronto

Engineered Aesthetics and High-Performance Durability for Commercial and Industrial Spaces

Decorative flooring should not sacrifice structural integrity for appearance. Flake and quartz broadcast systems are engineered, multi-layered resinous floors designed to provide extreme durability, slip resistance, and impact protection while delivering a high-end architectural finish. At Procure Surface Solutions, we specify these systems for environments where performance and presentation are equally critical across the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding industrial markets.

We do not provide “paint chips”; we engineer high-build, monolithic surfaces that withstand heavy traffic and maintain their visual clarity over a long lifecycle.

Where Decorative Broadcast Systems Works — And Where It Doesn't

Broadcast systems are high-performance solutions, but the selection of the “aggregate” (flake vs. quartz) depends on the mechanical load of the environment.

Ideal Applications:

  • Showrooms, lobbies, and commercial retail spaces.
  • Automotive service bays and high-end residential garages.
  • Locker rooms, laboratories, and healthcare hallways.
  • Schools, universities, and multi-purpose facilities.
  • Light manufacturing and cleanroom environments.

Not Always Suitable For:

  • Heavy industrial zones with constant metal-wheel traffic (requires high-build abrasion systems).
  • Extreme thermal shock environments (requires Urethane Cement).
  • Areas with constant chemical immersion (requires Novolac or Vinyl Ester systems).

System selection must be based on the “Friction Coefficient” and “Impact Load”—not just the color palette.

Why Decorative Floors Fail in Commercial Settings

The failure of a decorative floor is usually found in the preparation or the “topcoat.” If the wear-layer is insufficient, the system will yellow, scratch, and lose its bond within months.

Common causes of failure:

  • Inadequate Surface Prep: Failing to achieve the required CSP, leading to “peeling” of the entire decorative layer.
  • Topcoat Degradation: Using low-quality resins that yellow (amber) or scratch under foot traffic.
  • Aggregate “Starving”: Not applying enough flake or quartz to reach “full broadcast,” resulting in an uneven, thin appearance.
  • Moisture Blistering: Failing to test the slab for vapor drive before locking it down with a decorative system.

The result:

  • Uneven texture and “bald spots” in the finish.
  • A “cloudy” or yellowed appearance that hides the decorative element.
  • Premature wearing in high-traffic walking paths.

Types of Decorative Broadcast Systems

We specify the system build based on the required slip-resistance and mechanical thickness.

System Classifications:

  • Vinyl Flake Systems: Multi-colored chips broadcast into a tinted base; ideal for commercial aesthetics and hiding sub-surface imperfections.

  • Decorative Quartz Systems: Color-coated silica sand broadcast into clear resins; provides superior slip resistance and compressive strength for wet or high-impact areas.

  • Double-Broadcast Systems: Two full layers of aggregate for maximum thickness and durability (often reaching 1/8" or 3/16").

  • Metallic and Specialty Pigments: Utilizing high-flow resins for a marble-like, high-end architectural finish.

Our Approach to Decorative Engineering

At Procure Surface Solutions, we treat the decorative layer as a structural component of the floor.

  1. Substrate Diagnostics: Mandatory moisture testing and mechanical profiling (CSP 2-3).
  2. Base-Coat Application: Using high-solids, high-bond resins to “anchor” the system.
  3. Full-Saturation Broadcast: Applying the flake or quartz to “rejection” to ensure 100% coverage and uniform texture.
  4. Excess Recovery: Removing all unbonded aggregate to prepare for the encapsulation layers.
  5. Grout-Coat and Seal: Applying high-clarity, non-ambering resins to lock in the aggregate and provide the final wear-layer.

Quality Assurance & Why Procure Surface Solutions

Most contractors approach decorative floors as “painting.” We approach them as a 5-layer engineering project.

  • UV Stability: We utilize 100% non-yellowing topcoats to ensure visual clarity for years.
  • Engineered Traction: We adjust the aggregate size and topcoat thickness to meet specific slip-resistance requirements (ADA compliant).
  • Monolithic Finish: Our systems are seamless, eliminating grout lines where dirt and bacteria collect.
  • Field Experience: With over 45 years of combined experience, we ensure the broadcast is uniform and free of “fish-eyes” or uneven spots.

We do not install coatings—we engineer outcomes.

FAQs — Frequently Asked Questions in the GTA

Flake systems are larger, flat chips that provide a wider variety of colors and are easier to clean in dry environments. Quartz systems use tiny, rounded sand granules that are much harder and offer superior slip resistance, making them better for wet areas or heavy commercial use.

Because these are “broadcast” systems, the aggregate creates a natural texture. We can engineer the level of slip resistance (from aggressive to smooth) by adjusting the amount of topcoat resin applied over the texture.

Yes. We can create custom blends of both flake and quartz to match corporate branding or architectural specifications.
